Once you decide to undergo orthodontic treatment, the next step is choosing the type of orthodontic system to use. Drs. Ricardo Andrade and Denisse Montalvo from Dynamic Dental in Sacramento, California, highly recommend clear aligner therapy. Dental aligners let you straighten your teeth discreetly with greater comfort and ease. Here’s what you should know about dental aligners for your teeth.
Drs. Andrade and Montalvo will schedule a consultation to evaluate your oral health and teeth and assess the problems you want to fix. At this time, we’ll determine if clear aligners are the best choice for straightening your teeth. If so, we’ll use 3D imaging to personalize your treatment and create aligners for your teeth. Clear aligners work by exerting gentle pressure on your teeth to slowly alter their position for the better. You’ll achieve the desired results by wearing the aligners consistently and adhering to your treatment guidelines.
We recommend wearing the aligners at least 22 hours a day, removing them mainly to eat and clean your teeth. You can also remove the aligners for special events, as long as you don’t overdo it.
If you want your aligners to work well throughout your treatment, you need to keep them clean. To remove bacteria and debris, brush them gently with clear, liquid soap and a soft bristle brush. Then rinse with warm water before putting them back on your teeth. Store the aligners safely to avoid losing or breaking them accidentally when not in use.
Yes, but not as often as you do with traditional braces. Drs. Andrade and Montalvo may schedule dental appointments every four to six weeks to track your progress and oral health. If problems arise, we can resolve them quickly to avoid delays in your treatment.
Over the years, advances in clear aligner technology have made them more effective than ever in correcting orthodontic issues. Drs. Andrade and Montalvo recommend clear aligners for crooked teeth, misaligned bites, overlapping teeth, gaps between teeth, and crowding issues. If a problem is too severe for aligners to fix, we’ll let you know and guide you to an alternate system.
First, you’ll have a beautiful new smile to show for your patience and perseverance! To keep that smile looking its best long-term, brush and floss diligently and keep up with your dental cleanings. You’ll also be asked to wear a retainer at night while you sleep to keep your smile in alignment indefinitely.
