Dental implants are so similar in strength, durability, and appearance to natural teeth that few people can tell the difference. Despite their popularity, not everyone is familiar with implant treatment. Knowing the facts can help you decide if they’re right for you. Drs. Ricardo Andrade and Denisse Montalvo from Dynamic Dental are the people to see for implants in Sacramento, California.
In this post, Drs. Andrade, Montalvo, and our team have compiled seven facts you should know before getting implant treatment.
Implants are surgically placed inside your jaw to replace lost tooth roots. The procedure is done using local anesthesia and sedation for a comfortable, stress-free treatment. After a thorough dental evaluation and review of your medical history, Drs. Andrade and Montalvo can determine if implants are a good fit for you.
After implant placement, osseointegration begins. This is where the implants fuse with the surrounding jawbone tissue and heal. This process can last from three to nine months, depending on the complexity of your treatment. Once the implants heal, they’ll take the place of lost tooth roots to support your new teeth.
Implants prevent bone loss, improve your bite, and help remaining teeth stay in place, keeping your smile properly aligned. They make it easier to keep your mouth clean, helping prevent decay and dental disease. Your smile will be stronger and healthier than ever after implant treatment.
Implant teeth are fixed restorations that you brush and floss, just like real teeth. You’ll also see your dentist twice a year for routine cleanings. Implants won’t get cavities, but plaque can accumulate around the gum line, leading to a gum infection if you don’t keep this area clean.
Although implants have a 95% success rate, the process isn’t totally risk-free. Though rare, there’s a risk of infection, damage to neighboring teeth, or implant failure. Choosing an experienced implant dentist in Sacramento for your procedure minimizes these risks, increasing the likelihood of a safe, successful treatment.
